Having fun with the Elgato HD60S

Updated: Sep 2, 2021

After three weeks of sweat and pain, I managed to connect my two laptops. Finally, I had a decent streaming experience. In this blog post, I would like to write about the Elgato HD60S video capture card.

So I've got the box from Amazon, got home unpacked it. I've connected my gaming laptop through an HDMI cable using the "in" port of the capture card. Then I've plugged the USB cable into the streaming pc. Before this, I was trying to connect them with the NDI plugin. But for some reason, the video was stuttering on my streaming laptop. You can imagine how happy I was when I saw the smooth video signal on my streaming laptop. But no sound. So after I've calmed down, I got started my research on the matter.

Luckily for me, I've stumbled upon Cuzzy Josh youtube video. What he is pointing out is that I don't need fancy voice meter software. Just download Elgato's own sound capture software from their website. So I did that. In that, just go on the pc gaming tab. On that, you can select two channels where you want to hear your gameplay and where you want to send the sound to.

You need to download from Elgato's website the Game capture HD software too. On your streaming pc, open it. Select the cog and make sure the input device is on PC. And the Audio input is on HDMI Audio.

Restart everything, make sure your video settings in OBS are correct for your system. (this can be another blog if needed)

On your gaming pc, you need a game capture source in OBS. Just right click on the preview and select Fullscreen projection to Elgato. Start your sound capture software select the two main channels.

On your streaming pc, in OBS, you need a capture device source, with your video capture card as the device.

And after 3 weeks of suffering finally - I had sound and video ready for streaming. Then I bought a microphone...
